RELIGION – In Lesson 7 we learned that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Blessed Trinity, who became man, is our Savior. We learned the God the Son became man to teach us about God and to show us how to act as images of God. We discussed that Mary is Jesus’ mother and that Joseph was Jesus’ father on earth.

MATH – We continued working on Chapter 4, “Subtraction Facts to 10”. We reviewed subtraction sentences and made fact families. We reviewed all of our lessons from this chapter to prepare for the upcoming tests.

LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 3, Lesson 1 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain the sound of ks, spelled x. We also learned to blend, spell and read words that contain the d and t sounds, spelled ed. Our Read Aloud stories this week were The Reason for Four Seasons by Susan Willow and Time is When by Beth Gleick. Reading skills that we worked on included: main ideas, clarifying, and visualizing. We learned that a sentence is a group of words that states a complete thought, and that every sentence begins with a capitol letter and has an end mark. We read decodable books 34, 35 and 37 and they went home daily. I hope they continue to read them to you at home!

SCIENCE: We began an oxidation experiment on Friday. We put various metal objects in fresh water and in salt water. We’ll observe them over the next week to see which items rust.

SNACKS: Please make sure your child has enough to eat during the day. All students need at least two filling snacks in addition to lunch. Many kids have been hungry this past week!

HALLOWEEN PARTY: Our Halloween Party will be held on Wednesday, October 31 from 2:15-3:00. Thank you to our room moms and all the volunteers helping out to make this a fun time for the children. We will also have a Halloween Parade and the children CAN wear their costumes for the parade and party! They will have time to change into their costumes after lunch. Please make sure they are able to change into the costume by themselves. Please note that no masks are allowed and no witch or devil costumes.

VETERANS DAY: This year, STM would like to honor the Veterans in our lives with a video.  Please email ONE picture of any and all Veterans in your family to Rachel Espinosa (rachele@stthomasmore.org).  We would like to include as many branches as we can including: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, Reserves and National Guard.  Please only send US Vets.  All pictures must be submitted by November 2nd, 2018.
