LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK
RELIGION – We continued Lesson 14 discussing the sacraments of Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony.
VIRTUES IN PRACTICE:
January Virtue: Gratitude – seeing everything as a gift and being thankful
Saint: St. Francis of Assisi
MATH – We completed our Chapter 8 assessment and took the chapter pre-test for Chapter 9, Length.
LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 7, Lesson 1 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain long o, spelled oa and ow, and long u, spelled _ew and ue. Our Read Aloud stories this week were Why Evergreen Trees Never Lose Their Leaves and Plant Life Cycles. Reading skills that we worked on included genre knowledge, text features, and cause and effect. We learned that pronouns take the place of nouns. We read decodable books 82-84 and they home. I hope they continue to read them to you at home!
SCIENCE – In Unit D, Weather and Sky, we learned how clouds form and why water falls back to Earth. We created miniature water cycles in baggies and taped them to our classroom window. This little experiment helped the children understand the cycle of evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
