Big Idea: Who can be an artist?
Essential Question: Have you ever seen realistic art? What does it show, who painted it?
- Vocabulary: Review the words that appear in this week’s reading selection.
- Phonics and Spelling: Review sh, th, ch, ng, and nk spelling words. Also, go to Spelling City to practice your spelling words.
- Grammar: Your child will review how to expand sentences by adding adjectives and adverbs. Have your child say a sentence. Then have him or her add both an adjective and adverb to the sentence to expand it. For example: Original Sentence: The cat rested on the windowsill. Expanded Sentence: The old black cat rested peacefully on the windowsill.
WRITING: This week we are doing something a little different!
- Please see the “Let’s Have Some Fun” page that was emailed to you. Please have your child cut out the mini me and then take a picture of them with it. Next, have your child write about what they did with me. I can’t wait to read about our adventures! We will also share them on our 5/19 Zoom meeting!
RELIGION
This week your child will understand that a parable is a short story that is told to teach a lesson.
Read and Discuss: The Learning through Parables pdf with your child
OPTIONAL: Find and read a parable in a Children’s Bible

ZOOM MEETINGS
I will be scheduling regular Zoom meetings for every Tuesday beginning April 21 at 11:00. I will also be scheduling “office hours” every Friday beginning April 24 from 11:00 -11:30. All Zoom meetings are certainly optional on your part but I do look forward to seeing all my little friends. The Friday office hours are just for the kids to pop in and out and chat with me one-on-one or with a small group. It’s also a great time to ask me any questions about the assigned classwork. I’m happy to hear some reading too!
PICTURES
I love all the pictures! Please keep them coming!
MY HOURS
I am available for email communication ANYTIME!
JOKE OF THE DAY:
First graders (and Mrs. Cincilla) just love funny jokes and riddles! Give this one a try:
Question: What did the little corn say to the mama corn?
Answer: Where is pop corn?
Grant me the strength
to focus this week,
to be mindful and present,
to serve with excellence,
to be a force of love.
