May 13 – 17

O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Queen of the most holy Rosary, you were pleased to appear to the children of Fatima and reveal a glorious message. We implore you, inspire in our hearts a fervent love for the recitation of the Rosary. By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein may we obtain the graces and virtues that we ask, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.  Amen.

I hope all you moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day!!

Summer Reading and Math Assignments for incoming 6th graders:

1. Summer Reading Assignments: Incoming 6th graders will be responsible for reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by: C.S. Lewis (ISBN: 9780064471046).  Mrs. DeLurgio spoke to both 5th grade classes last week, so the students should have information for you.  The information sheet is available in my resources section.

2. Math Summer Solutions:  All incoming 6th graders will be responsible for completing a Math Summer Solutions workbook over the summer.  The workbook must be completed in it’s entirety and turned in during the first week of school (official due date TBD).  All 5th graders should order the “Intermediate A: Mathematics” level.  This assignment will be taken for a grade in math.  These workbooks can be ordered now!  Shipping is free until May 12th.  Please see the ordering information below:

This week, we will be discussing the 7 Catholic Social Teachings beginning with Life and Dignity of the Human Person and Care for God’s Creation.  In addition to discussing the teachings, we will be having a discussion with the 5th graders about puberty!!  Mrs. Wolf, myself, and Mr. Dahn will have a brief discussion on Thursday, and Dr. Meghan Woodman will be giving a presentation on Friday to the students about the biology around what is happening in their little bodies.  We will be sending home an opt in/out sheet that will outline what we will be discussing.  This sheet will be sent home either today or tomorrow so please keep your eyes out for that.  Please know that all lessons will be given separately with boys in one room and girls in the other.

We will continue studying decimals and fractions as percentages and move on to angles by the end of the week.  Students will have a quiz on percentages on Wednesday.  We will also be starting our End of Year Test review this week.  I have a packet that the kiddos will be working out of for their review and will be assigned for homework as well.

Social Studies

This week we are moving on to “Moving West” where we will be discussing the Alamo, the Oregon Trail, and the California Gold Rush!  Students will be having a test over this chapter, but not for a couple of weeks.  I will keep you posted with the date as it approaches.

Thank you to all who donated materials for the Catapult Project!  All students have completed their projects and they will be put to the test today to see how far and how accurate they can launch the ping pong ball!
