LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK
RELIGION – We began our week discussing the Epiphany of the Lord. We learned that on Epiphany we remember that the Magi went to Bethlehem and honored Jesus, the Savior of the world. We also learned about the Apostles’ Creed. We talked about what each of the lines in the prayer mean.
VIRTUES IN PRACTICE:
January Virtue: Fortitude – being brave and strong in the face of trials
Saint: Saint Bernadette
MATH – Chapter 7 – Numbers to 20. We learned to use a place-value chart to show numbers up to 20, and also show objects up to 20 as tens and ones.
LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 6, Lesson 1 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain long e spelled y. Our Read Aloud stories this week were Block Party and Be My Neighbor. Reading skills that we worked on included making connections, fact and opinion and making inferences. . We learned that complete sentences must always have a subject and a verb, and a subject and verb must agree in number. We read decodable books 73-75 and they went home daily. I hope they continue to read them to you at home!
SOCIAL STUDIES – We reviewed Unit 2: Where We Live. We discussed the difference in features among a city, a suburb, and a town. We identified the United States on a map. We learned a song about the continents to help us remember the names of the continents. We talked about what natural resources people use in daily life and how people change the environment.
