December 10 – 14

Happy Second week of Advent!

Lord, author of eternal salvation, your story was foretold and lives on in us.  As we journey through Advent, make straight our path to you.  May we look around during this season of light and find your face in those we serve.  May our love for them be a witness to the perfect joy we find in you.  Amen.

Note #1:

Dear Parents,

The “Polar Express” Party is right around the corner and the elves have been busy at work preparing for Friday, December 21st!  As part of the day’s festivities, our “Polar Express” train will be stopping at the “Gift Exchange” Station.  We are asking that ONLY the children who will be attending the “Polar Express” Party on December 21st, bring in a wrapped gift to their homeroom by Monday, December 17th. ***Please keep in mind non-specific gender gifts***

Group 1: Grades: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd (Dollar Store . . . $1)

Group 2: Grades: 3rd, 4th, 5th (Dollar Store . . . $1-$3)

Group 3: Grades: 6th, 7th, 8th ($5.00 Gift Cards)

Note #2:

Dear Parents,

As part of our polar express day we have taken extra precautions to make sure we are providing allergy friendly treats. Since there are so many different allergies we couldn’t do separate treats for each individual allergy so we will be combining them. We will have a separate station and separate serving platters. I assure you they will still be as yummy as the other treats?

For the cookie station will we be serving Free to Eat snickerdoodle cookies and Enjoy Life chocolate chip cookies. These cookies are made in allergy friendly plants.   We will also have Red Vines as those are gluten free.

We will also have allergy friendly apple cider for those who cannot have the hot cocoa due to dairy allergies.

This week, we will continue our traditional Advent Prayer Service in class.  All students will be taking turns leading the service and/or reading the Scripture passage that aligns with their Jesse Tree Ornament.  By the time we leave for Christmas Break, our tree will be fully revealed!

We will also be continuing the “Called to Protect” program.  Again, this program is designed to help teach your children everyday safety as well as safety on the Internet.  We will also be studying several saints whose feast days are during Advent.  Ask your kiddos what they learned about Our Lady of Guadalupe today!  Lectio Divina Week 15 is due on Friday, December 14th, as well as Second Step Week 11.

We will continue adding and subtracting mixed numbers this week.  The kiddos seems to understand the concept fairly well, so we will be practicing a lot to cement those concepts in their heads!

Last week we began chapter 9 – Earth’s Changing Surface.  This is a fairly long chapter so we will not be finishing it before Christmas Break.  There will be a vocabulary quiz on Thursday, December 13th.  Here is the link to the Quizlet:

Social Studies

We have begun chapter 4 – the study of the 13 Colonies.  All students have completed and were given back their map of the 13 Colonies.  There will be a map AND spelling test over the 13 Colonies on Wednesday, December 19th.  I have put a blank copy of the map in the resources area of my blog.
