Dear Second Grade Families:

Hope you all had a great weekend! We are going to be doing our IOWA testing all week. Therefore, there will be no homework or spelling test this week. Please have your children go to bed early and have a good breakfast. Please also arrive on time to school as we are starting our tests first thing in the morning. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Week at a Glance:

Math-IOWA TESTING: ALSO we will continue multiplication tables and work on division. We will continue to divide using related math facts; solve division word problems; review multiplication and division. Please continue to help reinforce these new concepts by reviewing multiplication/division flash cards at home.

Open Court-IOWA TESTING: ALSO we will continue to blend words and build oral language skills and fluency skills; study prefixes: dis, un; Re-Read Where’s the Honey, Honey; apply comprehensive strategies; asking and answering questions and making connections; investigate comparisons and contrasts; sequence; characters; events in a story; understand the author’s purpose; recognize sequence of events; visualize and ask and answer questions; give and receive feedback on writer’s conferences; research informative texts; complete a tree diagram; and continue daily work in journals. No Spelling homework or test this week.

Religion– We will continue to understand and recite the Ten Commandments. Discuss how God gave us the ability to think and choose; we can make good choices; sin; 2 kinds of sins-venial and mortal.

Social Studies-Unit 3, lesson 1: describe natural resources and tell how people use them; describe the factors that influence how people live; identify and compare urban and suburban and rural areas; compare and contrast farming today and long ago; describe how people use technology to change the environment.
